Andy Baumann Awarded Illinois APCO Technician of the Year

Names and support documentation including criteria that qualifies the candidate for the award is submitted by Illinois APCO members to the Illinois APCO committee. The committee members review and discuss the submissions and from that the "Technician of the Year" is selected.

Andy is the 2009 Illinois APCO “Technician of the Year”. Andy was nominated for this award by Mary Anne Glowacz. Mary Anne is the Communications Director for Deerfield Police located in Deerfield, Illinois.

Some highlights of the award include:

• Participation with Tri-Com Dispatch and their support agencies (St.Charles, Geneva and Batavia PD) in identifying the location of a person causing harmful interference on the PD radio system. The person was impersonating a police office by calling in false call, generating music on the air causing other disturbances disruptive to communications
• Participation with Kane Co. Dispatch and Kane Co. Sheriff in identifying the location of a person causing harmful interference on the PD radio system. The person was impersonating a police office by calling in false call, generating music on the air causing other disturbances disruptive to communications
• Coordination of a LIVE radio system transition between two active 9-1-1 centers for KaneCom in Geneva, Il.
• Technical and Service Support above and beyond for several public safety agencies in the Chicago Metro Area.

Andy has an Associates Degree from ITT and has been involved in radio communications since childhood.

Operation in violation of the Commission's rules may subject licensees to appropriate enforcement action, including admonishments, license revocation, and/or monetary forfeitures of up to $16,000 for each such violation or each day of a continuing violation and up to $112,500 for any single act or failure to act.
